Kick-off-meeting “RealTimeCastSupport”, October 1st / 2nd in Düsseldorf
The kick-off-meeting for the RFCS project “Embedded real-time analysis of continuous casting for machine-supported quality optimisation” (RealTimeCastSupport) took place on 1st and 2nd of October 2019 at premises of the coordinator BFI. Further project partners besides BFI are AG der Dillinger Hüttenwerke, voestalpine Stahl GmbH Linz, Materials Processing Institute and Minkon SP ZOO Thermal and fluid-mechanical conditions in continuous casting moulds are not precisely known although highly relevant for the product quality. Therefore, the aim of the proposed project is the digitalisation and optimised control of continuous casting machines. Large data streams will be taken in to account for an online control of the process and the casting machine will be represented and investigated with a digital twin. The operators will be assisted by a support system with suggestions for an optimised process control in real-time. It will be considering data from cameras, novel as well as existing sensors in the melt, the mould and inspection of the final product. The project is funded by the Research Fund for Coal and Steel of the European Union (RFCS-Grant Agreement No. 847334).
