SPIRE project meeting in Valencia

The third project meeting for the SPIRE-project “Development of an efficient microwave system for material transformation in energy intensive processes for an improved yield” (DESTINY) took place on 22nd and 23rd of October 2019 in Valencia. In an international consortium of 14 partners coming from the cement, ceramics and steel industry a new reduction process based on a microwave treatment shall be developed. BFI will operate a lab-scale system and perform trials in a pilot plant at DK Recycling und Roheisen. It is expected that the new process will allow the use of less and cheaper raw materials and will require less energy than other reduction processes. Thus CAPEX, OPEX as well as CO2-emission will decrease with the DESTINY process. The meeting was combined with three seminars and a laboratory visit at the Universitat Politecnica de Valencia and trials at CEINNMAT.
