Measurement of flange parallelism on heavy I-beams

At a beam straightening press the angle of the flange edges is measured contactlessly as a means of optimising the straightening process.

Two laser optical triangulation measuring sensors lying one above the other, and adjustable with the straightening plate, measure the distances "X" and "Y". Their difference and the measure "a" serve as a basis for computing the angle of the flange.

The press operator, after entering the flange width, receives the data in the form of a slanting bar graph as well as displayed numerically on a monitor. The function keyboard offers the possibility to invoke also other system functions.
The measuring system has proven very successful, also when exposed to such exacting mechanical stresses.
