To measure the straightness of sections, for example, one or several distance measuring sensors mounted on a precision-built trackway are guided along the section in the straightening press. The diagram shows such a set-up.

After a positional correction, the curvature is derived from the distance data and graphically displayed. The straightening positions proposed to the operator can be modified manually and serve to position the sections automatically in the press.

Technical data (example):

Trackway length 16 m
Measuring range (MR) 500 mm
Resolution 1/4000 of the MR
Measurement uncertainty 1/1000 of the MR
Measurement frequency 16 kHz

As an option, the position of the section edge in the press can be displayed by using line scan cam-eras and backlighting, thereby providing the possibility to monitor the result of each pressing process.
