Situation
• New optical and functional requirements for coatings
• Fast innovation progress in the development of substrates
  e. g. new steel grades
• Increasing costs of energy and resources
• High costs for disposal

BFI solution
• Improvement of quality and efficiency in plating of coils and parts
  (e. g. extension of lifetime, examination of fluid dynamics, pulse plating)
• Interdisciplinary cooperation with partners from industry and research
for the implementation of innovative technology in surface finishing
  (network NOVOTEC and Forschungsagenda Oberfläche)
• Development of new coating processes (e. g. scale protective coatings)
• Process optimization of the pre-treatment of metal surfaces (degreasing,
  electropolishing, pickling, brushing)
• Development of measuring meathods for continuous quality control of
process baths (e. g. online analysis of metal and acid concentration
  in process baths)
• Recovery of precious materials from waste water and residues
  (e. g. metals, particles and acids)

Services and equipment
• Plants at laboratory scale for the determination of optimal
  process parameters
• Plants at technical scale for process development
• Chemical laboratories, surface analysis, electrochemical methods
• Mobile experimental and analytic laboratories for experiments on site
• Simulation tools (fluid dynamics, material stream balance)
