Ultrasonic measuring system

On-line monitoring in a shroud

Situation
• Analysis of product specimens to determine melt cleanliness
• Downstream identification of inclusions without any direct intervention in the
  control of the process
• Process disturbances possible through lack of information  on current condition of nozzle system

Solution
Continuous monitoring of cleanliness in nozzle systems by means of ultrasound
• On-line detection of non-metallic inclusions in the scanned cross-section
• Identification of nozzle system wear or clogging
• Simultaneous flow rate monitoring in the nozzle system through upgrading
  of the measuring system

Fields of use and operational benefits
• Application at nozzle systems of metallurgical vessels throughout the process chain
• Integration in process control system
  - Analysis and improvement of the casting process
  - Early identification of qualitatively lower-grade melts
  - Reduction of substandard production
