Measuring system in operation

Situation
• Analysis of product specimens to determine melt cleanliness
• Downstream identification of inclusions without any direct intervention in the control of the process
• Process disturbances possible through lack of information  on current condition of nozzle system

Solution
On-line monitoring of cleanliness in nozzle systems by means of ultrasound
• Direct and demand-related detection of non-metallic inclusions in the scanned cross-section
• Simultaneous flow rate monitoring in the nozzle system through upgrading of the measuring system

Fields of use and operational benefits
• Application at nozzle systems of metallurgical vessels throughout the process chain
• Integration in process control system
  - Monitoring of the casting process
  - Early identification of qualitatively lower-grade melts
  - Reduction of substandard production
• Verification of measures for prevention of slag carry over
