On-line monitoring in submerged entry nozzle

Measuring system in operation

Situation
On-line information is required concerning the flow pattern in submerged entry  nozzles (SEN):
• undesirable flow pattern would be detected,
• process disturbances would be reduced, and
• clogging would be detected in good time.

Solution
Continuous monitoring of the flow pattern by means of ultrasound:
• Piezo-electrical ultrasonic transducers
• Compressed-air cooling
• On-line signal analysis

Operational use and benefits
On-line data available for direct process diagnosis:
• Monitoring of stopper purging and/or SEN filling ratio
• Improvement of product quality
• Increase in productivity
