Betriebsforschungsinstitut has machines available for testing the wear behaviour of materials accord-ing to the following methods:

  • Pin-disc method
  • Emery paper method
  • Friction wheel / dry sand rubber wheel methods
  • Three body abrasive method
  • Impact wear method
  • Solid-particle erosion method
  • Hydroabrasive wear method
  • Cavitation erosion method

The testing machines are able to simulate the following forms of wear:

  • Sliding wear
  • Abrasive sliding wear (bonded and loose abrasive grain)
  • Abrasive impact wear
  • Three-body abrasive wear
  • Solid-particle erosion (impact, abrasive and oblique impact)
  • Hydroabrasive wear
  • Cavitation erosion

The testing can be conducted under various types of wear exposure conditions and, in some cases, under corrosive conditions.
Additional types of wear exposure are simulated by modifying the available testing machines.
