Wear, as defined by DIN 50320, incurs considerable costs in the steel industry, estimated at around 2.17 billion DM/year. Accounting for the largest share of these costs, at around 1.69 billion DM/year, is the maintenance of unlubricated (925 mill. DM/year) and lubricated tribo-systems (744 mill. DM/year). The reason for such high costs lies in the fact that the tribological problems facing the steel industry are particularly diverse. |
