The thickness profile of hot strip can be effectively controlled with the aid of actuators. This requires knowledge of the strip dimensions for which an effective and sustained influence on the thickness profile is possible and practical without causing any out-of-flatness. Extensive laboratory and field tests have been conducted with a view to clarifying this question.

Field tests have been conducted at two 7-stand hot strip finishing mills to determine the influence of various parameters at the different mill stands on the final thickness profile.
