Situation
• Inadequate removal of undesirable, dissolved, biologically degradable
components by chemical/physical methods (e.g. flotation)
• Long hydraulic residence time in biological treatment facilities
• Insufficiently low bacteria concentrations in existing treatment facilities
• Occurrence of foam/scum/bulking sludge problems
• Bacterial contamination of cooling water and emulsion recirculation
  systems

BFI solutions
• Process-related optimisation of biological treatment facilities
• Development of new processes or combination of existing ones to treat
  problematic process water types
• Innovative process concepts, e.g. membrane bio-reactor
• Testing and implementation of process concepts in laboratory and
  field experiments
• Use of e.g. selectors to avoid foam/scum/bloating sludge

Our services and facilities
• Process development (laboratory, customer technical centre, in-plant)
  and applied technology
• Analysis of bacterial populations
• Mobile pilot equipment for field use
• Customer technical centre for process development
• Membrane and chemical laboratories
