Kick-off-Meeting “REVaMP” in Brussels
The Kick-off-Meeting for the SPIRE-Project „Retrofitting Equipment for Efficient Use of Variable Feedstock in Metal Making Processes“ (REVaMP) took place on 21st of January 2020 in Brussels. The project with 16 partners from the steel, aluminium and lead making industry with a total budget of 9,9 Mio. Euro is coordinated by BFI.
The objective of the project is the development and industrial application of new sensors and process control tools to cope with the increasing variability of material feedstock in the metal making industry. In the project, BFI supports the development of a novel sensor for volumetric in-line analysis of steel scrap. Furthermore, the scrap mix optimisation tool of BFI and predictive process models for on-line monitoring and optimization of the melting processes are applied. Overall goal of the project is to increase the efficiency of steel scrap recycling in liquid steelmaking, to allow the production of high-quality steel grades as far as possible on the basis of secondary raw materials.
