NickelRück – Recovery of nickel from process waters of phosphating

Initial situation:

  • Processes and waste water containing nickel are produced during the phosphating of steels
  • Seizure of phosphating sludge after the addition of chemicals in waste water treatment
  • Sewage must comply with discharge criteria

Working topics:

  • Model development for metal extraction
  • Investigation of innovative membrane materials
  • Selection of the optimal membrane contactor and a suitable extraction agent
  • Operational tests for the development of a process concept for nickel recovery

Results:

  • Recovery of nickel from process waters of the phosphating of steels
  • Minimization of fresh water requirements and compliance with waste water limits
  • Development of a technology based on innovative membrane contactors
