Furnace roller with reflecting, metallic Coating

ReflexRolle – Development of a reflecting, anti-adhesive Coating for furnace rollers

Within the planned research project a reflective and anti-adhesive coating will be
developed for water-cooled furnace rolls in strip galvanizing plants. The goal is to reduce the heat loss by
the rollers. The cooling leads to heat losses of about 12 Mio. kWh (natural gas) per plant. Results from a
BMWi-funded collaborative project (FKZ 03ET1043A / B / C / D) showed an energy saving potential of up to
67% by reflective coatings in the pilot plant. Several coating variants with regard to wear and optical
properties will be tested and enhanced for the operational application.
Extensive wear tests as well as measurements of
Emissivity and cooling loss performed on different samples and on demonstrator rollers will be
implemented.
The most promising coatings will be tested operationally in the plant.
