Key result in the SynErgie project

As part of the Kopernikus project "SynErgie", funded by the German Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR), the project partners Kanthal GmbH, thyssenkrupp Steel Europe AG, VDEh-Betriebsforschungsinstitut GmbH and WS Wärmeprozesstechnik GmbH have reached an important milestone. A hybrid radiant heating tube was developed for the energy-bivalent (combustible gas and electrical energy) heating of a steel strip furnace and successfully tested in the BFI high-temperature pilot plant. Both energy sources complement each other very well in operation. The prospect is to use green combustible gas (the burner used is suitable for hydrogen) and electrical energy from renewable sources.

This means that the requirements for the next step, long-term testing in a production plant, which is to take place shortly, have been met.
