MaxH2DR: Second review meeting in Düsseldorf
The second review meeting of MaxH2DR (Enrichment of Hydrogen in the direct reduction process) was held on 28. August 2025 at BFI in Düsseldorf. During the meeting the consortium presented and discussed the project results of the second reporting period and received recommendations and positive feedback from the project advisor Dr. Susana XARÁ from the European Health and Digital Executive Agency (HaDEA) and the expert evaluator Prof. Efthymios Balomenos from the National Technical University of Athens.
MaxH2DR project provides missing knowledge and data on reduction processes. The determination of pellet properties under process conditions and the interaction of solid and gas flow in a physical demonstrator provides data for digital models, such as the key technology DEM-CFD. On this basis, the integration of the process into existing process chains is optimized. The simulation tools are combined into a toolkit that analyses the effects of product properties on downstream processes as well as the effects on gas and energy consumption.
The project is funded by the EU. Project partners are VDEh-Betriebsforschungsinstitut, Ruhr-Universität Bochum, Université de Lorraine, Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna, Åbo Akademi University, Tata Steel, Università degli Studi di Salerno, Sieć Badawcza Łukasiewicz, CiaoTech and The European Steel Technology Platform (ESTEP).
