7th MTAIC in Egypt: Field Trial Results from the MiningWater Project
The achieved results of the field trials of the project "MiningWater", were presented by Dr. Martin Kaschek (Cerafiltec) at the 7th International Conference for Membrane Technology and its Application (MTAIC) in Egypt, 12.-13. August 2026.
Main outcome of the field trials, performed by Cerafiltec, the Jordan University of Science and Technology (Prof. Mohammad Al-harahsheh) and VDEh-Betriebsforschungsinstitut GmbH (Eng. Martin Hubrich) were the application of a technology combination for a reliable solid separation up to 30wt.-%, water recovery in quality for internal reuse and valorisation of separated phosphate containing solids.
The hybrid conference with over 30 presentations and over 100 participants from Egypt, MENA Countries, Europe and Asisa, was organized by the project partner National Research Centre (NRC) with chairman, Prof. Heba Abdallah from the NRC Membrane flat sheet group.
The NRC developed in the MiningWater project a new membrane consisting of a polymer membrane containing metalorganic particles to decrease fouling and scaling, covering all steps from material development, membrane production in DINA 4 flat sheet as well as 4 Inch spiral wounded module for membrane plants and membrane testing.
This research was funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) under the 'Middle East Regional Water Research Cooperation Program (MEWAC)'.
