BFI engages with academia and industry on industrial transformation

On the eve of the ‘Science Meets Business’ symposium on 15 September 2026, we had the opportunity to visit Hüttenwerke Krupp Mannesmann (HKM) in Duisburg. During a tour of the works, participants gained fascinating insights into the port, the converter steelworks and the continuous casting plant. Of particular interest were the insights into HKM’s plans to transform itself into a purely electric steelworks. The event concluded with a lively discussion on various aspects of the transformation.

Over the following two days, at the Gelsenkirchen Science Park, the focus was on exchanges between the worlds of science, business, politics and society, as well as on exploring current specialist topics in depth across various forums, under the overarching theme of ‘Shaping industrial transformation – ensuring competitiveness, resilience and climate neutrality’.

As a partner of SCI4climate.NRW, BFI took part in both highly successful events – our sincere thanks go to the respective organisers, Bellona and Vordenkwerk Industrietransformation, NRW.Energy4Climate and the Wuppertal Institute, for their excellent organisation!
