S5 – Integrated thickness and flatness control

Initial situation:

  • The regulations of the strip thickness and the strip planarity influence each other.
  • The planarity controller is artificially slowed down to reduce the band thickness disturbances.

Working topics:

  • Development of an integrated control concept for thickness and flatness control.
  • Development of an online plant model, Planeness and band thickness model validation.
  • Implementation of the scheme.

Results:

  • Planarity actuators operate at maximum speed, fast adjustment of planarity errors.
  • No undesirable cross-connections between flatness and thickness adjusters.
  • Lower thickness deviation over belt length.
  • High acceptance by the operator.
